Life and living in Southern Spain by David Robson. July 2007

The adventure begins - 3

Before we reached the province of Almeria, we had to drive through Granada province.  Being in a little car (800cc engine), and being also that this province, like much of southern Spain, is incredibly mountainous, we decided to head down to the coast and wind our way, (quite literally), along the coast road toward Almeria.

We had planned to try and find a hotel in the small Spanish town of Almunecar, and stay a night or two to allow exploration.

It was dark as we arrived, and since the coast road had come inland by this time, we had inadvertantly passed by before we realised, and we found ourselves in Motril further along the N340 coast road.

After an hour traipsing around the port of Motril in the dark, trying to locate signs for a hotel, we headed west again toward La Rabita.  It was now very dark and there was little sign of habitation.  How very different things look in the daytime.

We remembered spotting a hotel on our way, just before we passed through Salobrena.  A decision to backtrack was made, since, by now, discussion within the car was becoming somewhat heated, to say the least.

I don't what it is about Sod's Law, but I know when we are travelling, it is a constant companion.  The bit that seems to stick to us most is "If it can go wrong - it will!" - (and it did).
